Inspiring Bosses Whom We Admire

If you’ve ever had a job, chances are you’ve also had… a boss. In our eyes, the best bosses we’ve ever had are committed to the success of the company and the success of their team. They’re forward-thinking and not afraid to take calculated risks. They’re dynamic and interesting and fun, but will still give it to us straight.

So, in honor of Boss’s Day we’ve come up with a list of a few Inspiring Bosses Whom We Admire who each represent some of the qualities that make someone a good, or even great, boss.

Reed Hastings – CEO of Netflix

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings knows the importance of culture in his organization, too. Hastings has helped foster the idea of “responsible freedom” over at Netflix. The number one priority Hastings sets for his team? Just get the job done. And they’re encouraged to live their lives, take risks, and innovate to do it. Earlier this year, Hastings also announced that the company will now offer unlimited leave for mothers and fathers the first year after a child is born or adopted. And, Netflix already allows all of its employees unlimited time off! We’d use at least some of that paid time off to kick back and binge watch Fuller House with a Edible® to Go treat.

Arianna Huffington – Co-Founder of the Huffington Post / Founder of Thrive Global

Arianna Huffington is an iconic influencer in journalism and one of our favorite #GirlBosses. She was listed as #12 on Forbes’s 2009 list of the Most Influential Women in Media AND named the 52nd Most Powerful Woman in the World in 2014. (WOW!) After building the Pulitzer Prize-winning Huffington Post empire, she’s shifting her focus to her newest endeavor – a company called Thrive Global based on the belief that high performance doesn’t have to come at the expense of your health and well-being. And that’s an idea we can definitely get behind – after all, Edible Arrangements® is all about taking the time to celebrate all of life’s moments, big and small… along with a little something delicious that’s both wholesome and a special treat, of course.

Jerry Stritzke – CEO of REI

One common quality among the best bosses is that they “walk the walk,” but in this case maybe “hike the hike” is more appropriate. From his office décor (a hand-crafted wooden stand-up desk made from a hand-picked tree stump) to his risky decision to close the company and encourage all employees to spend Black Friday outdoors, REI’s Jerry Stritzke is one CEO who truly embodies the brand. Even sweeter, every REI employee also gets 2 paid days off every year to use the store’s equipment while venturing into the backcountry. (Is it just us, or would this be the perfect Boss’s Day gift for Jerry?)

Jon Steinberg, Founder & CEO of Cheddar

A boss that’s visionary AND doesn’t mind if you’re scrolling your Facebook newsfeed at the office? It might sound like a professional unicorn, but Jon Steinberg might just be it. The former Buzzfeed President & COO recognized that media is transforming, so he started a new company called Cheddar to deliver live news content to business-minded millennials. Edible Arrangements® also got its start because our Founder & CEO recognized an opportunity, identified the right audience, and then did something completely new and different. Game respects game.

Edible Arrangements® Franchisees

Ok, we admit, we might be a little biased on this one, but great bosses are dedicated, hard-working, and passionate – and these are characteristics our franchisees definitely share! Each Edible Arrangements® store is locally owned and operated by an entrepreneur who’s committed to building a business, training their teams, and WOW-ing their Guests with incredible products and even better customer service. We’re thrilled to be able to recognize some of these inspiring bosses with awards at our Conventions, but with over 1,300 stores in 12 countries around the world, we’d like to celebrate ALL of them this Boss’s Day.

These Inspiring Bosses Whom We Admire prove there’s more than one way to be a great boss, and we think that’s pretty sweet! If you have a great boss or mentor that you admire, don’t forget to celebrate them this Boss’s Day on Monday, October 17. We have a few fresh Boss’s Day gift ideas we’re pretty sure they’ll love.
