A rose made out of a strawberry is the perfect romantic treat. After all, it combines two innately romantic things: roses and strawberries. Plus, strawberry roses will impress your sweetheart who will think that you slaved all day making them. The truth is they’re easier to make than you might think, and it won’t take long at all to whip up an entire bouquet. When you’re done impressing your loved one, you can both enjoy the delicious treat. You can also use the rose strawberry to decorate cakes, pies, or other desserts. They would also make for great party food.

Supplies You’ll Need to Make a Strawberry Rose
Luckily, making a strawberry rose doesn’t require a lot of supplies. You’ll just need a few simple ingredients you most likely already have on hand. Here’s what you need:
- Large Strawberries with leaves still on
- Wooden skewer to hold strawberry
- Sharp paring knife
When choosing strawberries for making a strawberry rose, look for medium to large strawberries. These are the best size for making strawberry roses, especially when you’re just learning the technique. You can move on to smaller strawberries when you’ve mastered the craft. For best results, choose berries that are wide at the base and come to a point at the top. You also want to find berries on the firmer side, so opt for berries that are just ripe. These are best for carving and will yield the best results.
How to Make a Strawberry Rose
Now that you’ve gathered up all the necessary supplies for making your strawberry rose, you’re ready to get started. Here’s how to make a strawberry rose step by step:
Step 1: Wash Strawberries and Pat Dry
First, make sure your strawberries have pointed tips and leaves. These provide greater support for you while carving and also make the rose look more authentic. Wash your strawberries and gently pat them dry. Next, insert a skewer into the bottom of the strawberry where the leaves are. This skewer will give you something to hold onto while carving.
Step 2: Make the Base Petals
Hold the pointed end of the strawberry upwards and get ready to start carving. Starting about halfway down the strawberry, slice about three-quarters of an inch down. Before removing the knife, use it to press and curl the slice of strawberry outwards to create a “petal.” Repeat on the other three sides of the strawberry to create four base petals.
Step 3: Create the Next Row
Repeat this process for the row above the base. Make sure you make your cuts are in between the existing petals so that they are staggered. Curl each petal back with the knife. Continue to create staggered petals in rows upwards until you reach the top of the strawberry.
Step 4: Make the Bud
Make a slit at the top of the strawberry to create a rosebud like a real rose. Next, you can gently push back each of the petals to create your desired rose shape. You can choose to create a rose with tight petals or one that’s a bit more spread out as if in full bloom.
Step 5: Repeat
Repeat the entire process with as many strawberries as you want to. You can create an entire rose bouquet for your sweetheart if you’d like. Or, you can choose to create just a few at a time. You can keep the roses on the skewers, or remove them to make the roses look more authentic. You can even “plant” the roses in plastic flower pots.
