In the spirit of the “back to school” season, here’s a story of how one amazing Edible Arrangements® franchisee helped local high school students fulfill a community service project earlier this year!
This past January, Edible Arrangements® store owner Kimberly Tromba of Forest Hills, NY collaborated with a group of local high school students for a pretty sweet community service project. Kimberly invited over 60 students from the Kiwanis Club of Forest Hills High School to her store for three weekends in January, where the students sliced fruit to make over 1,000 fruit salads for City Harvest!
Kimberly has a long-standing history with the school: she was one of the founding members of the school’s Kiwanis Club herself! Her current role as a liaison between the Kiwanis Club and the school’s Key Club led to this, very fruitful, community service project. When Kimberly was tasked with finding a fun and educational way for students to fulfill 3-4 hours a month of volunteer work, naturally cutting fruit came to mind!
Together, they agreed that a goal of making 1,000 fruit salads would be a challenge, but an attainable one. The students were taught some of the basic skills needed to work cooperatively in a professional kitchen, and several students were later hired to work as Fruit Experts® in Kimberly’s store!
